July 12, 2013 by Tony Sabanos

Have you ever had that feeling of insatiable hunger after you just got done eating a full meal? For those who are particularly susceptible to these effects, avoiding refined carbohydrates might reduce urges and potentially help control weight, said … [Read more...] about Are you feeling hungry? Busy moms need to put themselves first sometimes.

May 14, 2013 by Tony Sabanos

With Mother's day just 2 days past us, it got me to thinking about all of the mother's out there who do everything for every one except themselves. If you have a fantastic mother like I do, your mom is probably always taking time out of her day to fulfill your needs whether it is to feed you, give you moral support, guide you, teach you, or yell at you because you are making a mess. Mother's are typically some of the most selfless individuals and it can be problematic when they don't get some time for themselves. They need to enjoy some time to themselves to partake in things that they may … [Read more...] about Busy moms need to put themselves first sometimes.

Breakfast: Should I eat it and if so what should I consume?

April 11, 2013 by Tony Sabanos

Many Americans start their day off with just a cup of hot coffee and some sort of junk food that they picked up on the way to work. This could consist of a donuts, tastycakes, egg mcmuffins, hash browns, pack of crackers, or biscotti. If you are they type of individual who gets up a half hour before work takes a 5 minute shower throws on some clothes and rushes out the door to work, chances are you have eaten some of the foods listed above. The problem with the foods above is that they are extremely unhealthy and start your day off with you trying to play catch up the rest of the day. There is … [Read more...] about Breakfast: Should I eat it and if so what should I consume?

Crunch your way to a flat stomach?

March 22, 2013 by Tony Sabanos

I overheard a woman at the gym the other day say she was going to get on the decline bench and work on her obliques. I was in the middle of a session, so I could not help her out, but that comment is commonly made about a variety of abdominal exercises. She truly thought that by performing several sets of obliques that she could spot reduce the fat on her stomach. There are quite a few misconceptions about training your abdominals and the ability to directly change your physique by performing certain exercises. I'd like to clear up a few of the things I have heard over the years I have been in … [Read more...] about Crunch your way to a flat stomach?

March 6, 2013 by Tony Sabanos

Are you one of those individuals that sits at a desk for several hours a day? New studies show that this could be the new silent killer. The health hazards of sitting for long periods of time are significant even in individuals who work out on a consistent basis. That point was reiterated recently in two studies, published in The British Journal of Sports Medicine and in Diabetologia, a journal of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes. You could work out several days a week performing both strength training and cardiovascular exercise and it would not exclude you from the … [Read more...] about Sitting: The New Silent Killer

Body Mass Index, What a waste of an idea.

January 24, 2013 by Tony Sabanos

For quite some time now, the government has been preaching Body Mass Index chart as the gauge to determine what a person should weigh based on their height to weight ratio. In recent news, an Oxford mathematician discredits this chart because it gives tall and short people inaccurate readings. Body Mass Index is calculated by using your weight in kilograms divided by your height in meters squared. A normal range of BMI can consist of about 18.5 - 24.9; 25 - 29.9 is overweight; and 30 and above is considered obese. There are many problems with this chart one of the major ones is that if you … [Read more...] about Body Mass Index, What a waste of an idea.
