Cara Wirth, Wilson TennisIn the past couple of years, I made attempts to exercise, and what I thought was eating better, hoping to lose a few pounds. I would continue to get frustrated, as I would not see any results. My husband would occasionally ask me when I was going to go back to the gym, knowing that exercising would make me feel better. I would reply, “one of these days”. Then my clothes started to get tighter. Plus turning 50 did not help in thinking if I would ever be able to get on the right track. After my husband encouraged me to come to the gym with him I did and I sat down with Tony and discussed proper nutrition. I never imagined that in a couple of months I would lose 12lbs, reduce inches as well as reducing my bodyfat from 24%20to 13.2%. The primary change was my eating habits. I never entertained the idea of a personal trainer before because I was always a self-motivator, and disciplined where exercise was concerned and my theory was I didn’t need a personal trainer. I decided to give it one last try this past March when I was introduced to my personal trainer. After a short conversation, his sincerity convinced me to sign up for twelve sessions. I must say I was totally embarrassed by my performance when my trainer gave me my initial Microfit. I started to wonder if it was possible to make any kind of improvement, but after three or four sessions I started to see and feel the changes. I play one-on-one basketball with my 16 year old son once or twice a week. In the past, I have had to take a breather after the first ten minutes or so, but now I am proud to say that after a half hour of continuous play, I’m still going strong. My trainer suggested that I see Tony Sabanos regarding nutrition. What a fantastic job he has done putting a menu together for me. I soon realized that I was not on a diet, but tha I had simply changed my eating habits. I did however, need to start eating healthier. I have a fundamental understanding of nutrition and would consider myself a healthy eater for the most part. I avoided fried food, ate lots of fruit and vegetables, and was able to stay away from most things considered junk. But I still needed help. Because of my job as a Group Fitness instructor I exercise a lot, sometimes too much. I could feel the overtraining taking its toll on my energy levels. I could feel that my performance was being affected. I have always considered myself an athlete, and I wanted to start eating as such, so I could handle the demands for my job. I went to Tony and told him my story. I wouldn’t mind losing 1 or 2 percent bodyfat, but primarily I wanted to eat to fuel my body so that it would work more efficiently for me, I said. He had me fill out a survey that questioned things like my sleep patterns, my weakness foods, my medications, and so on. He put me on the scale and we went from there. In no time at all Tony provided me with a meal plan that was specific and easy to understand. He recommended supplements, and reviewed everything with me answering my numerous questions. Seems that even though I ate most healthy foods, I wasn’t eating as often as I should, or in the right proportions. For example, too many carbs not enough proteinat meals or vice versa. I learned how to couple foods together to eat for optimum performance and also for body fat loss. When I follow my nutrition plan, I feel better, I work out better, and I even sleep better. And the fact that my “skinny jean” are starting to get loose doesn’t hurt either! Pretty much my whole life had been spent overweight, inactive, lazy, and all-around unhealthy. Last year I reached my low point. So I joined a gym and went on that horrible Atkins diet. I was going regularly, but the results were slow to come and I quickly became discouraged. And then I ran into Tony. I talked to him about my situation and maybe I was just genetically predisposed to being “big-boned”. My best bet was to meet a girl that liked chubby guys. Tony didn’t want to hear that. His confidence to change my lifestyle was contagious and I hired him! That day began my journey into the golden world of health and happiness. He told me that from the start that there would be some discomfort involved in the beginning. He wasn’t going to put me on a fad diet or routine, he was going to change the way my body and mind functioned for good! And he was right, Tony will never lie. The first week was tough, but Tony was always there for advice to tweak my program. I would also call him when I needed extra support and instruction. He said hang in there, the second week will get better. And again, he was right. I started to feel better and the weight started to gradually come off. I passed the level of energy and strength that I had when I first started with him! I was happy with that, because I wasn’t able to figure out how to do it on my own. One day around week 4, Tony and I were talking about my progress, and he said to stick with it and watch that would happen. Then my body really started to respond to Tony’s program. Soon I lost 5 more pounds, then 10, then 20, then 30, then 40 pounds! It just kept peeling off and now I proudly weigh in at 234 pounds and counting! For a guy that is 6’4″, that’s exactly where I want to be. 60 pounds and 5 months later(you do the math) I now have energy, motivation, love for life, more attention from women than I can handle, and the knowledge that I am living the way I am supposed to! Tony tells it to you straight, and is always there for you. His vast knowledge covers diets, supplements, exercise, medications, and anything else you might be concerned about. One misconception I had was I thought that you needed to exercise as much as possible to lose weight. Not true…..I learned from Tony that nutrition is the key and exercise simply supplements that foundation you build. He wants to know how you are doing and encourages you to update him regularly.
