As we come to an end of January 2014, we are starting a new challenge called WORLD’s Biggest Loser. Now many individuals have seen the tv show, where overweight contestants go to an undisclosed location for a certain amount of time and have access to a state-of-the-art facility where two or three trainers work with these individuals to lose weight. You have probably scene images of a trainer yelling at a contestant and trying to motivate them to stay focused on the goal of becoming the Biggest Loser. As with many television shows they are designed to be dramatic and engaging so that a person will tune in each week to see their progress. The program has many flaws and gives individuals a false pretense of how weight loss actually occurs. They show dramatic weight loss from week to week and fail to mention several other factors like the participants work out for several hours a day with a very restricted caloric intake. As a trainer, I am personally offended that shows like this exist because it causes people to get frustrated and give up when they don’t see the results on television. This January 2014, we have decided to spin our own twist on the actual challenge to see who can be WORLD’s Biggest Loser. The caveat to the challenge is that it is not solely based on weight-loss alone because I have seen many individuals take drastic weight-loss measures to achieve such a title.
This challenge will run for a period of 12 weeks. Participants will be weighed in a private setting and no requirements of certain spandex attire. You are allowed to weigh-in in whatever clothing you choose to. The caveat is that you must wear the same outfit every time you weigh-in. This will keep everything on the level without having to guess as far as what clothing deductions might be. The actual weights of everyone will be kept private and not shared with anyone. The board will reflect the names of the participants and after each weigh-in the amount of pounds gained or lost. This challenge will not only be based on weight loss but will also consist of bodyfat percentage. This will ensure that people are losing weight in a healthy way because if you drop your caloric intake too low to drop the weight, it will offset your bodyfat percentage and cause that number to go higher. The winner will be determined by who has lost the most pounds AND the most bodyfat percentage. If you lose the most weight but don’t lose the most bodyfat percentage, you will NOT win the challenge. In the event of a tie between the most pounds lost AND the most bodyfat percentage lost, we will have a tie-breaker to determine the winner.
This is a great opportunity to start getting ready for the warmer months by taking good healthy lifestyle changes and incorporating some exercise into your daily routine. The prizes have not been announced as of yet, but with us making a slow progression towards spring, now is the time to start getting that summer body you have always wanted. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Tony Sabanos either via email, cell phone or stop by the WORLD electronics gym after a class.
