Heart responds differently to exercise in men vs. women

April 10, 2014 by Tony Sabanos

The formula for peak exercise heart rate that doctors have used for decades in tests to diagnose heart conditions may be flawed because it does not account for differences between men and women, according to research to be presented at the American College of Cardiology's 63rd Annual Scientific Session. The hippocampus has become a focus of interest in dementia research because it is the area of the brain involved in verbal memory and learning, but it is very sensitive to the effects of aging and neurological damage. The researchers tested the impact of different types of exercise on the hippocampal volume of 86 women … [Read more...] about Regular aerobic exercise boosts memory area of brain in older women

April 8, 2014 by Tony Sabanos

With Easter quickly approaching, many families will be hustling out to buy their children an Easter basket filled with non-nutritious goodies. Many of the favorites that might end up in the coveted basket can be peeps, chocolate peanut butter eggs, Dove chocolate bunny, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, jelly beans, chocolate marshmallow bunnies, and many others. Even a modest basket like the one pictured can consist of well over 1,000 calories and 250 plus grams of sugar. If your children are like most, they will try to devour the entire basket if they are given the opportunity to. If you consider … [Read more...] about Ready for Easter?
